Our Arts-First Student Matinees program allows students to travel to a theatre/performance space for an abbreviated version of a child-friendly performance. We can also bring the performance to you for an in-school assembly performance.
For years NCB has been thrilled to welcome Newport 3rd to Rosecliff mansion to attend a dress rehearsal performance of the Newport Nutcracker at Rosecliff. NCB has also brought performances of Mother Goose and Alice in Wonderland to the students for a performance.
NCB’s Arts-First Matinees are often a student’s first experience with live dance performance.
In November 2022, NCB was delighted to host the 3rd grade from Pell Elementary School for an Arts-First Student Matinee performance of A Newport Nutcracker at Rosecliff. More than 150 students and teachers enjoyed an abbreviated performance, learned some Rosecliff history from a Preservation Society of Newport docent, and got to interact and speak with the Company dancers. The students were so polite and well-behaved and the dancing was exquisite. It was a joyous way to begin the holiday season!
Dancing Through Boundaries
Dancing Through Boundaries, was created by NCB as a multi-modal learning strategy to reinforce core curriculum standards for elementary classrooms and has evolved as our flagship educational program which has operated successfully since 2012. The program makes connections between dance/movement, the arts, and classroom curriculum. Lessons learned and understood kinetically help students to advance academic learning, build life skills, support social emotional learning, inspire confidence, and build self-esteem.
