Community Classes

During the Newport Dance Festival, you can join in the dancing too!

Newport Contemporary Ballet offers community classes during the week of Newport Dance Festival for folks interested in exploring movement and dance. These classes are designed for students age 12 – adult and are appropriate for those with and without experience. Come move with us!

Classes are held at the outdoor stage at the Great Friends Meeting House. (21 Farewell St, Newport RI).

Open Contemporary

Wednesday, July 15th
from 10am-11am
with Mollie Morgan  

A funky contemporary class for adults turning inward. Structured like a traditional dance class with exploration of movement through sense and feel. Mollie is a somatic therapist and dancer. She has her B.A. in movement science and her M.A. in Clinical Counseling. Mollie has performed with acts such as Lake Street Dive, and treated dancers working with companies in New York for the last five years. In dance class with Mollie you can expect creative prompting, fun music, and laughter!

Yoga

with Maddie Burnett of Alison Beatty Cook Dance  

This workshop offers a welcoming, step-by-step introduction to foundational postures, mindful breathing (pranayama), and relaxation. Designed for beginners or practitioners looking to refine their form, it breaks down alignment and teaches you how to safely modify poses to fit your unique body. Madelaine (Maddie) Burnett is a core company member and featured dancer with Alison Cook Beatty Dance. A Royal Academy of Dance certified ballet teacher and certified Graham Technique instructor, she often incorporates yoga, including beach yoga, into the company’s residency and rehearsal retreats.

with Facundo Ferreyra of Alison Beatty Cook Dance  

Join core Alison Cook Beatty Dance company member and Argentine dancer Facundo Ferreyra for an immersive master class exploring the foundational contractions, spirals, and weight shifts of the classic Graham Technique. Facundo graduated from the School of Dance at Teatro San Martín in Buenos Aires with a scholarship for artistic excellence. In Argentina, he performed with the Ballet Oficial de la Fundación Julio Bocca. He is a graduate of the Martha Graham School and was a member of Graham 2. Facundo has taught Graham Technique in workshops at the National University of the Arts and other institutions across Argentina.
