As part of our community programming, NCB offers community masterclasses, workshops and/or residencies with visiting artists and educators. These programs are designed to align with the needs of community partner organizations, are mobile and can be presented at on-site of the host’s organization.

In September of 2022, upwards of 33 parents and their children participated in a collaborative movement workshop conducted entirely in Spanish with patrons of Conexion Latina Newport sponsored by Newport Contemporary Ballet. The workshop was conducted by NCB guest choreographer Anniela Huidobro who assisted another NCB guest choreographer, Tania Perez Salas, one of the four female choreographers who created work for NCB’s season premiere, Points of Departure.
The workshop was one of the many accompanying community programs surrounding “Points of Departure”. It is the start of an ongoing collaboration with Conexion Latina Newport as NCB embraces all communities that call Newport home as well as celebrates Hispanic Heritage Month.
Rebekah Gomez, Executive Director of Conexion Latina Newport was thrilled with the turnout, “People we have never seen participated! They want to know when we will hold the next one!”
The workshop, entitled Raices en Movimento (Moving Roots), was an upbeat, playful introduction to how movement can easily be incorporated into everyday life. Participants ranged in age from 18 months to 50+. Many of the young children have participated in NCB ‘s in-school Dancing Through Boundaries arts integration program, or will do so in the coming years, at Pell Elementary School and surrounding schools in Newport County.
