Dancing Through Boundaries: In-School Curricula

Our In-School Curricula programs can consist of a one-off school assembly, or a two-week, three week, or longer residency. There are a variety of curricula focuses  including:

  1. Math to Movement for 1st and 2nd grade
  2. Text to Movement for 3rd grade
  3. Multicultural Movement for 3rd grade: arts-integration with a Social Studies/History academic focus

In January 2023, NCB inaugurated its Multicultural Movement curricula at Pell Elementary School in Newport. Seven 3rd grade classrooms each focused on a different country to gain a better understanding of culture, history and families around the world. NCB teaching artists consciously combined culture and movement while they led students to explore the nations of Brazil, Dominican Republic, El Salvador, Guatemala, Israel, Kenya, and Ukraine.

Pell School Principal Traci Westman, stated, “We are so happy to have NCB at the school this week for the Multicultural Studies curriculum. NCB is a valued community partner for all our students.”

Two culminating performance showed off the student’s work at the end of the work.

Dancing Through Boundaries

Dancing Through Boundaries, was created by NCB as a multi-modal learning strategy to reinforce core curriculum standards for elementary classrooms and has evolved as our flagship educational program which has operated successfully since 2012. The program makes connections between dance/movement, the arts, and classroom curriculum. Lessons learned and understood kinetically help students to advance academic learning, build life skills, support social emotional learning, inspire confidence, and build self-esteem.

In our long history of partnership with our local school systems, we strive to demonstrate the connection between dance, the arts, and classroom curriculum. Lessons learned and understood kinetically help students to inspire confidence and build skills. Our goal is to help all Newport County students master critical skills that are crucial to their future success in school and life.
